Remembering Mario Cuomo’s Environmental Achievements in NYS

Since former NYS Governor Mario Cuomo passed away on New Year’s Day at age 82, journalists across the state have been commenting on his legacy, including his leadership on education, AIDS, transportation safety and last but not least, the environment.

During his three terms as governor, Governor Cuomo was instrumental in creating the Hudson River Greenway; passed a bond act to raise $1 billion for hazardous waste remediation across the state; and enacted protection for Long Island and the Adirondacks that were very forward-thinking for their time. He will be missed.
