During these summer months, Solar One and Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) have worked together to deliver Green Building Operations and Maintenance training to superintendents in lower Manhattan. The trainings focus on improving building health, safety, and comfort, while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Building superintendents and maintenance workers don’t always get a lot of attention, but they are critical to making our buildings sustainable. They are the ones who have the most day-to-day impact on how a building operates and how successful it can become in reducing its energy usage .
The five day course and curriculum run by Solar One and AAFE was structured in line with the requirements for Building Performance Institute’s (BPI) Multi-Family Building Operator Certification. The training consisted of two portions; one section in English and the other in Mandarin/Cantonese. The students, building superintendents and maintenance staff, now have the potential to improve the quality of life for their tenants and to help play a vital role in reducing energy costs.
If you work, manage, or own a building and are interested in a similar training to reduce energy consumption and improve quality of life for your tenants please contact Josh Vedder at Josh[at]solar1[dot]org or 646-576-5661
