Bandwagon and HOP Lane Help You Get Where You’re Going, Faster and Greener

hoplaneIn 2012, 25.7 million people traveled through LaGuardia airport, many of them to or from other points in the city. We’re justifiably reknowned for our lack of private cars compared with the rest of the country, and while we have a public transportation system that’s the envy of the world, it’s a bit inelegant when it comes to getting to and from the airports. And we’ve all waited in long lines after a long flight to try and catch a cab- us and 200 other single riders. It’s expensive, it’s inefficient, it’s resource-intensive…there must be a better way!

And now there is: Bandwagon is a rideshare app that helps riders save money by carpooling via car service or taxi with another rider going in the same direction, or to the same destination. All you have to do is sign up and start sharing!

Solar One Awarded $2 Million EDGE Contract

 

newNYSERDAlogoSolar One was awarded a $2 million contract by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to serve as its Downstate New York (New York City, Westchester and Long Island) representative for a new NYSERDA program called Economic Development Growth Extension (EDGE).

Acronyms aside, this is an extraordinary opportunity for Solar One to do the work it does best – promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental stewardship through education and outreach.

In this presentation Arc Finance India Program Manager (and former Solar One Outreach and Education Coordinator) Chris Neidl will discuss India’s rural electrification challenge and how off-grid alternative energy applications – such as solar photovoltaics – are being deployed in increasing numbers to meet the needs of remote, low-income populations.

Chinese Delegation Tours S1 Workforce Training Center

photoOn Monday morning, a delegation of seven officials from China toured the Solar One Workforce Training Center and held a meeting afterwards to learn about how Solar One develops and manages its educational programs. The officials, from both government and NGO organizations in China, were extra excited to see the training center, where Solar One holds it’s workforce development classes.

The exchange was mediated by professional translators, who utilized a live-translation earpiece system, whereby each person wore an earpiece and could hear the translations on-the-fly.
