Samuel Man, NYSERDA EDGE Queens/Staten Island Regional Outreach Coordinator

Samuel Man is the NYSERDA EDGE Regional Outreach Coordinator for Staten Island and Queens and is responsible for promoting, educating and connecting communities with NYSERDA programs and incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy. Prior to joining Solar One, he was an energy efficiency consultant for small business and nonprofit clients throughout NYC. Some notable energy efficient retrofit projects he managed include the historic St. George’s Episcopal Church in Flushing and the Sambucci Bros’ Auto Salvage facility in the industrial corridor of College Point. Born and raised in Manhattan, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves after attending Brooklyn Technical High School. Sam’s advocacy for sustainability began with Envirolution’s Win-Win Campaign for energy auditing training. He has a BA in Urban Planning from the State University of New York at Albany and is currently studying for his MS in Sustainability at The City College of New York.

Matthew Rolnick

Matthew Rolnick, NYSERDA EDGE Multifamily Regional Outreach Coordinator

As a NYSERDA EDGE Regional Outreach Coordinator, Matthew is responsible for promoting and explaining the suite of funding and support programs which NYSERDA has to offer for Commercial, Residential and Industrial building owners.  Since 2010, Matthew has been implementing utility and educational programs to promote green buildings and green jobs.  Projects have included work on Con Edison’s multi-family and small business programs, leading multi-disciplinary teams on energy efficiency research and advocacy campaigns as well as conducting seminars and trainings for various non-profit, governmental and corporate clients and staff.

Matthew will be focused on helping multi-family building owners, including Coop and Condo boards, neighborhood, tenant, and landlord associations to find innovative and profitable ways to green their buildings.

Matthew has an M.B.A. in International Management from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.


Gary Smith, Tenant Education Program Coordinator

Gary Smith is the coordinator of Solar One’s Whole Buildings Education program that trains managers, staff, and residents of affordable housing in energy efficiency and sustainable practices. Gary’s vision for the Whole Buildings Education program is to help weatherized buildings achieve their intended energy savings and reduced environmental impact through awareness and encouraging behavior change. Gary also teaches with Solar One’s Workforce Development program which offers training to individuals looking to gain entry level positions in the green sector. Gary is a nationally certified BPI Building Analyst and is currently studying to gain certification as a BPI Multifamily Energy Efficient Building Operator. He has also completed AEA’s Energy Efficient Technician training and Envirolution’s Win-Win Campaign for energy auditors. Prior to his work with Solar One, Gary served as an after school educator for Boys and Girls Harbor and taught GED math.


Rachel Stein, NYSERDA EDGE Program Manager

Rachel Eve Stein is a passionate social activist, and serial light switcher-offer who manages operations and strategy for NYSERDA EDGE’s Downstate Territory. She began her career raising high the roof beams of democracy, working in the US House of Representatives, UK Parliament, the NY State Assembly, and on behalf of the NY State Public Service Commission. She created an independently designed major at Boston University, earning her BA in Social Movements and the Democratic Process, and writing her thesis on grassroots political campaigns. When not at Solar One, she is likely at home in Gowanus, Brooklyn keeping vampire voltage at bay and watching Meet the Press.
