During the summer, Solar One’s small solar-powered facility, normally used for youth environmental education, is transformed into a unique green theater presenting solar-powered art and music events. The Green Energy Arts Festival presents dance, film and music entirely powered by the solar photovoltaic array on the Solar 1 roof, as well as hosted events in collaboration with partners like Loving Day, Crawfish NY and Rooftop Films.

Our arts programs educate and entertain visitors of all ages and demonstrate the potential for solar power to fuel an urban lifestyle. Many New Yorkers think of solar panels as a futuristic, off-grid technology, far removed from city life. The Green Energy Arts Festival proves otherwise. Our signature programs include the Sun To Stars South Asian Culture Festival and the Solar-Powered Film Series. For many years, the Solar-Powered Dance Series has presented the work of emerging and established choreographers.

All events are free, open to the public, and family-friendly.
