Solar One’s Chris Fowler joins the hundreds of kayakers who paddled around Stuyvesant Cove last Sunday.
Stuyvesant Cove was the scene of a great , free kayak paddling event last Sunday. Hundreds of people came out to experience the East River in an up close and personal way as they paddled around the Cove in kayaks provided by the Long Island City Community Boathouse (LICCB). Volunteers from the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club, Urban Swim, the NYC Water Trail Association and the Lower East Side Ecology Center helped get everyone in the water safely and efficiently, and the great attendance demonstrated just how much interest and enthusiasm there is for East River water access.
Among the attendees was NYS Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, who co-sponsored the East River Blueway Plan along with Borough President Scott Stringer. Stay tuned for news on another kayaking event- this one was such a big success that we’re sure to see more in the future! And many thanks to NYCEDC for all their help in making this happen!
